2023년 4월 종로구 평창동에 문을 연 서울시립 미술아카이브는 현대미술의 주요 자료를 수집, 보존, 연구, 전시하는 국공립 최초의 아카이브 전문 미술관이다. 예술인 개인과 단체가 남긴 미술사의 발자취를 좇아 수많은 기록과 자료를 수집·선별해 보존하고 연구하는 데 목적이 있다. 2014년 건립 준비를 시작으로 약 10년 만에 베일을 벗었는데 한적한 주택가에 차분히 자리한 모습이 인상적이다.

Seoul Museum of Art, opened in April 2023 in Pyeongchang-dong, is Korea’s first public art museum dedicated to archiving. It collects, preserves, researches, and displays materials that document the history of modern and contemporary Korean art, offering a tranquil space where visitors can encounter the preserved traces of artists’ lives and works.
