The Seoul Design Festival has prepared SDF Design Seminary 2021 to strengthen the design competitiveness of domestic designers and help them expand around the world.
The SDF Design Seminar is wide open to design industry workers, major students dreaming of the design industry, and anyone interested in design. This year, working-level officials from famous Korean companies will be invited to vividly convey examples of areas such as design branding, lifestyle design, and communication design. We invite you to the SDF Design Seminar where you can identify design trends and expand industry insights.

DESIGN SEMINAR
Session 1 : Design copyright
Ung Kim
Patent attorney
10:30 – 12:00
Why should designers know intellectual property rights?
Design exhibits both artistry and merchantability. Design purifies a person’s mind and gives satisfaction through possession. For that reason, the law gives designers a gift of intellectual property rights.
But the designer doesn’t know the gift well. I don’t even open the gift. The gift may be taken away by others. The gift gives designers infinite potential value. So designers need to know intellectual property rights and study. I share and feel the meaning today.
Session 2 : What does design mean to leaders of Korea’s leading companies?
HYUNDAI
13:20 – 14:10
Re:Style
It introduces Hyundai Motor’s brand vision “Progress for Humanity,” which aims for the sustainable development of mankind, and various projects that reflect it. Through this, let’s explore the direction of what role design should play to form a brand image in a rapidly changing future environment.
Joongyeol Choi
SAMSUNG

The Power of Design Intelligence
An era in which design-related trends are rapidly changing. How can designers quickly grasp the trend of this era and continue design innovation?
Through stories about products (space where products are placed, differences in users’ perspectives on products), and stories about designers (change brought about by SNS, conversations in visual language), we will talk about the current design that we need to think about and create.
Wooram Lee
NAVER

Communication Design: Platform Design
I would like to explain platform service design that connects suppliers and consumers based on Naver shopping service cases and talk about the rapidly changing role and way of working in service design jobs.

mat-kkal
MHTL
16:55 – 17:10
HEAVISIDE
“Habyside” is a complex cultural space that sells mid-santry furniture and objects and introduces new coffee and bakery development. This place is run by young artists who work on music and painting textures. Habitide’s logo borrowed the scene of five members and their beloved coffee and objects filling the space as a formative motif.
Habitide is named after the mathematician Heavicide, who created a step function formula between 0 and 1. As such, we have established a worldview that people can turn on and off the switch of life with a comfortable mind as a space with two modes of “ON and OFF.” The logo was also designed in two solid/outline versions that can be turned on and off. By developing a pictogram that can be used like a dingbet font, two versions of communication methods were proposed in typography.
WooSeok Heo
STUDIO HOU
17:10 – 17:25
Studio H.O.U’s cosmetic design.
Studio H.O.U designs everything we see, feel, and touch in our daily lives. We introduce Studio H.O.U’s unique design approach, work process, and work that redesign cosmetics containers based on three-dimensional shapes of industrial design, not cosmetics containers that were designed only based on existing graphics.

Through Rolypoly Cotto’s spatial design process, we are going to talk about how to interpret brands, create stories, and melt them into space.
