예술과 건축은 물성으로부터 영감을 얻는다는 윤현상재의
슬로건이다. 20여 년 전 건축자재 회사로 시작한 윤현상재는
2011년 크리에이티브 스튜디오 스페이스 비이 설립을
통해 문화 콘텐츠 기업으로 도약하는 데 성공했다. 건축,
디자인, 공예의 경계를 넘나들며 보폭을 넓히고 있지만,
그 모든 발자취를 한데 묶는 교집합은 여전히 자재에 대한
애정과 관심이다. 지난해 새로 문을 연 윤현상재 머티리얼
라이브러리는 이러한 관심의 연장선에 있다. 문영빌딩
2층에 자리한 이곳은 라이브러리라는 이름이 무색하지 않을
만큼 다종다양한 건축 · 인테리어 자재를 갖추고 있다. 나무,
돌 등 전통 재료부터 리사이클링 소재에 이르기까지, 수백
가지 자재와 도구를 손으로 직접 만져보고 오감으로 경험할
수 있는 게 장점이다. 단순히 자재를 소개하는 공간을
넘어 창작자를 위한 디자인 플랫폼으로 거듭나고자 하는
윤현상재 머티리얼 라이브러리는 삶을 풍요롭게 만드는
물성의 가치를 오감으로 확인할 수 있는 영감의 보고다.

"Arts and Architecture are inspired by materials'—this is the motto of Younhyun Trading, a company that began as a building materials supplier over 20 years ago. Since establishing the creative studio Space B-E in 2011, Younhyun has successfully transformed into a cultural content company, expanding its reach across architecture, design, and craft. Despite this growth, a deep-seated passion for materials remains at the heart of all its endeavors.

Younhyun Material Library, which opened last year on the second floor of the Munyoung Building, embodies this commitment. True to its name, the library offers a diverse array of building and interior materials, from traditional wood and stone to recycled materials, with hundreds of options available for visitors to explore and experience through touch and sight. Beyond simply displaying materials, Younhyun Material Library aspires to be a design platform for creators—a repository of inspiration where the intrinsic value of materials can be appreciated as a source of enrichment for everyday life.
